Dear All:
As you all know, we are working forward to get our story of Singapore-Myanmar Double Taxation Agreement and its impact on the Myanmar community in Singapore published in the local news media.
It is a very important step in this movement. The good news is that we are meeting a news reporter this Tuesday 27 Feb. at 7pm.
Kindly let me know - by Monday evening - if you or your friends can join this meeting and share the true stories.
It will be better if we can have people who can represent various sectors (WP, EP, PR, S Pass, Maid, Nurse etc.). Call me to know the details (Venue, Agenda etc.) of the meeting.
With best regards
Naing Moe Aung
(Feb 07, 2007) Progress to date, and next steps
Dear DTASG Supporters:
Here is the update (progress to date, and next steps) about our movement. I am pleased to say that we have done substantial progress during the past few weeks thanks to the tireless efforts by all volunteers who provide leadership with their own unique contributions. My salute goes to all those who makes this happen and of course to all you supporters who provide encouragement and support.
"Progress to date"
- We have just finished our second meeting with IRAS liaison officer today. We have provided all necessary official documents and explained him all information he need about our case. He is carefully looking into our case (based on NMA data) and shall get back to us by Tuesday next week if he has any questions. If there is no more questions, he will prepare the case within 3 weeks from next Tuesday. Then he shall submit the case to competent authority (CA) assigned by the Finance Minister. After that CA Singapore shall communicate our cases to CA in Myanmar.
- We have more understanding about DTA rules (thanks to documents gathered by Ko Win Htike).
- We have done English translation of income tax application forms that Myanmar Embassy required us to submit.
- We have modified the data collection template and submitted to IRAS for review. They shall get back to us by Tuesday next week.
- We are in the process of publishing DTASG Pamphlet Burmese version (50% done).
- We are doing the Burmese translation of DTA document for distribution.
- DTASG Blog has been created so that we can gather all your views and feedback (we shall officially launch it by the end of this week).
- We have sent the formal letter on double taxation avoidance issue to Myanmar Ambassador to Singapore.
- We have done press briefing about DTASG with overseas Burmese media.
"Next Steps"
- Submit to the IRAS the first batch of cases (in the new form) that we have already collected so far.
- Continue to collect the cases and submit to IRAS.
- Arrange for the interview with local newspapers (the Straits Times, Today, and New Paper).
- Follow up with the Myanmar Embassy.
- Launch the DTASG blog.
- Get the Burmese translation of DTA document done.
- Arrange the seminar on DTA.
I genuinely believe that we shall prevail when we all are determined, focused, united together, and not keeping silent about injustices, and do our best to remove it.
Please do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions about our DTASG movement.
With best regards
Naing Moe Aung

(Jan 30, 2007) Got a volunteer (a former Myanmar citizen) who can share his experience on double taxation
Dear All:
I am pleased to tell you that one of the supporters has managed to get a volunteer (a former Myanmar citizen) who can share his experience on double taxation. I have just talked to him to reconfirm his consent to join in the BBC Special Program.
BBC Burmese service will call him direct to get his view. Kindly keep sharing me the contacts of those who can participate in that.
Many thanks to you all in advance.
Regards
NMA
(Jan 29, 2007) Experience sharing by a former Myanmar citizen
Dear DTASG Supporters:
BBC Burmese service wants to brodcast a special program about double taxation avoidance movement in Singapore.
In that they would like to cover a story of a former Myanmar citizens who has converted to Singapore Citizenship as they understand that double tax is one of the top reasons for giving up Myanmar Citizenship.
Please could you let me know if you know someone who can share that. He/She can remain confidential about his/her identity if he/she want that. Just telling his/her first name could be sufficient.
Kindly email me "naing {at} projectdecision.com" his/her contact number after getting his/her consent to participate in the program.
Look forward to hearing from you.

(Jan 28, 2007) Progress update on investigation by Singapore Authorities
Dear DTASG Supporters:
I am pleased to update you that I have just talked to the Singapore liaison officer who is handling our case. He told me that he is looking into all facts and data (my case data) and moving ahead with the investigation.
He also told me that he has been contacted by the competent Authority of Finance Ministry (which we have contacted through Ramond Lim) and they are also asking him to promptly handle the case.
I think our systematic approach to engaging this critical key stakeholder (the Singapore authority) will give us a good advantage in our favour.
As always, we should remain united and stand up to protect our rights.
History has proved time and time again that "Justice" and "Fairness" always prevail!
With best regards

(Jan 25, 2007) Submitting a formal DTA letter to Myanmar Ambassador in Singapore
Dear All:
This morning I and my friend went to Myanmar Embassy to submit a formal letter about double taxation avoidance to Myanmar Ambassador (as suggested by an Embassy staff to me on 5th January 2007).
The on-duty Embassy Staff this morning has advised us to send it via registered mail if we want their formal acknowledgement about receiving the letter. We have taken note of their advice and already sent the letter via registered mail this afternoon. We will follow up with them once they have already received the letter in a few days.
With best regards

(Jan 18, 2007) Reply from Minister Ramond Lim about DTA
Dear All:
Minister Raymond Lim has already sent our case to the authority in charge of the Ministry of Finance (MOF) . We are expecting a reply from them soon.
This is a very good news indeed! Based on the article 26 of DTA, the MOF is the right state organ to address our issue and we are hitting right on the nail.
Let's work together toward the success! Keep encouraging your friends to join us. We shall prevail!
Regards

(Jan 15, 2007) Conversation with Charles Chong, Singapore MP
Dear All:
I have just made a telephone conversation with Charles Chong, Singapore Member of Parliament (MP) who is interested in Myanmar affairs.
He told me that he is going to talk to the MPs in East Coast GRC (because I belong to this area) and see if they can take up the case. If not, he promised me that he will personally take up our case.
I think it is a very good progress. I am sure we will win this case!
Let's work together to lead us to victory!
With best regards
Naing Moe Aung
